While many small agencies are closing their doors or reducing services, we have a solid fundraising plan and advisory support, largely a result of VGA's services.” – Tracey Lynn Pearson, Executive Director, Youth Care & Beyond

Youth Care and Beyond

OBJECTIVE:

Helping Youth Care and Beyond raise critical operating funds; raising greater awareness of the agency and its mission

STRATEGY:

Identifying prospects, developing a case statement and submitting customized funding proposals; mentoring an in-house grant writer

RESULTS:

Raising more than $160,000 in 2013-14; launching a $490,000 capital campaign to underwrite needed repairs, furnishings and vehicles for agency’s residential sites; increasing awareness of and support for the agency in the community

YouthCare-Content-Image3In 2011, VGA began working with Youth Care and Beyond (YCB), an agency that provides counseling and other support services in a residential setting to intellectually-disabled youth and adults. During 2011-2012, VGA helped YCB raise operating funds needed to offset inadequate state reimbursements and defaults by a private contractor.

VGA identified prospects, developed a case statement and submitted customized funding proposals. These efforts created greater awareness about YCB and its mission in the philanthropic community. VGA also mentored a part-time in-house grant writer who has now assumed responsibility for grant-writing. In addition, VGA worked with YCB to revise its bylaws and restructure its board, and reviewed and standardized its financial reporting.

During 2013-2014, VGA helped YCB raise over $160,000 for operating and assisted with the development and launch of a $553,760 capital campaign. The campaign will underwrite repairs and new furnishings for the agency’s three groups and adult apartments, a new teaching kitchen and two passenger vans for transporting clients.
