CASE STUDY

The Rose Theater

OBJECTIVE

To raise funds to underwrite Rose Theater productions, arts education programs, and capital needs so that people of all economic backgrounds can experience the magic of the performing arts.

STRATEGY

VGA creates and implements an annual grants calendar, develops fundraising and sponsorship strategies, continuously researches new prospects, and submits grants and reports for operating, program, and capital campaign support. VGA also provides event management and development services for Rockin’ Rosie, The Rose Guild’s annual fundraiser.

VGA has worked with The Rose in a variety of capacities for more than 30 years. From 2004-2007, Vic Gutman served as The Rose’s interim executive director, increasing the theater’s endowment by $13 million and balancing its budget. VGA also developed the theater’s membership program, which increased participation from 480 subscriber families to 3,200 member families.

VGA continues to provide development services for The Rose, assisting with raising over $1,000,000 annually through corporate sponsorships; foundation grants; major gifts; individual gifts; and state, county, and federal government support. VGA also helps guide year-round stewardship and sponsorship fulfillment activities designed to engage and retain current supporters.

In 2014, VGA completed a $5.6 million capital campaign to restore and weatherize the exterior of the historic theater. In 2020, VGA developed the strategy and raised nearly $2 million to create the 27,000-square-foot Rose Studios for Youth Artists.

“VGA works very closely with Rose leadership to create long-lasting relationships with our very supportive donors, keeping The Rose going strong season after season.”
